Accomplishments in web accessibilityPhil Pollock receives a plaque from Lisa Goodner

Lisa Goodner presents OSCA Employee of the Quarter to
Phillip Pollock from the Office of the State Courts Administrators

Phillip Pollock, Web Administrator for the Office of the State Courts Administrator, was selected as the Employee of the Quarter for July – September 2007. He was nominated for his leadership role on Section 508 accessibility issues for the Court.

Phillip Pollock has been an eager student in several web development classes with us at Thoughtware Technologies, including our Web Site Accessibility course. He has worked hard to further the cause of accessibility within the Florida courts.

On October 2, Phillip was part of a team of presenters along with Craig Waters, Director of Public Information, and Tricia Knox, Web Administrator for the Florida Supreme Court, that presented “Web Disability Access: Best Practices in Preventing a Disability Lawsuit over your Courts Website” at the National Court Technology Conference in Tampa.

We congratulate the Florida Supreme Court for their accomplishments in the area of accessibility.

This may be the beginning of a huge step forward in making the web accessible to persons with disabilities. The case could set a precedent by declaring that the World Wide Web is a place of public accommodation, which would mean that all commercial web sites must maintain full accessibility.
